They Call Me "Brud-law"

Although the mother of my children and I are no longer together, I still maintain a friendly association with her family and extended family.  Her mother still treats me with every kindness at her disposal, and I return the kindness and love she gives me.  My exes' siblings and their husbands still refer to me as "Brud-law," an endearment that means brother-in-law.  Its nice to know that just because my ex and I are no longer together, that doresn't mean I am divorced from her family. I am still invited to participate in family functions or just to stop by and chew the fat whenever the notion strikes, and this is because they appreciate me for the person I am, and have proven myself to be, regardless of what problems I have had with their sister/sister-in-law/daughter. I'm sure some people may take this for granted, and even though I have never really voiced my opinion one way or the other about it, I am proud to still be "Brud-law" after all these years.
